Remote work remains prevalent, but heightened U.S. return-to-office mandates should lead to stronger near-term demand
The sooner office employers navigate their long-term space requirements through in-person and hybrid work schedules, the likelier office demand will mount a comeback.
Office remote job postings are down 41.1% year-over-year though non-remote job postings are down a comparatively limited 19.8% year-over-year, which is a reflection of greater return-to-office mandates and weaker employment conditions.
Each major office sector reported a lower remote share of total job postings from 2022 to 2023 with one surprise exception – law firms. Some legal services firms are increasingly leveraging remote workers, such as project managers and assistants, to help limit overhead costs.
