Georgia ranks as 15th most desirable state for relocation
– The Southeast is currently a hotspot for relocation when examining net migration numbers with North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee ranking as top 3 locations for relocation in the country.
– When diving deeper and looking specifically at the Atlanta Metro Area, Atlanta is absorbing relocations mainly from New York as well as California, the top two states people are relocating from due to various factors including cost of living, remote work and political influences. A notable amount of people are also coming from Athens-Clarke County, GA which is an ongoing trend with students graduating from UGA and seeking professional opportunities within a city hub. As of September, Atlanta has added 43,000 new jobs within the last 12 months, a factor to consider when looking at the increase in leasing activity within the market when comparing executed deals year-over-year.
– Since this data is portraying net migration, we can also explore where the people are going when they depart Metro Atlanta. 5 out of the 10 top destinations are all still within the state of Georgia and just outside of the Metro area. Overall, Georgia is maintaining residents with migration sitting at 5.3K, but residents within the city core are seeking out more affordable areas within the state.
