Chicago's O’Hare International Airport sees increase in cargo
- Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport saw the most significant change in domestic air cargo increasing 17.5% in the month of June 2024 when compared to June of 2023. Over the same timeframe when considering both international and domestic air cargo O’Hare saw a healthy increase of 11.7%. Year-to-date total air cargo is up nearly 8% as of June 2024.
- The rise in air cargo at O’Hare can be attributed to factors such as increased trade, growth of e-commerce, ocean freight constraints particularly around the Red Sea and a potential strike at the East Coast ports. This shift in transportation of goods secures the inventory to arrive on time and avoid a disruption in the supply chain.
- The O’Hare industrial submarket is the largest within Chicagoland and benefits from close proximity to the O’Hare airport, major highways and remains an extremely desirable market to users and institutions. Overall vacancy remains low, recorded at 5% at the end of Q2 2024.
