Derek Jacobs leads the healthcare group for the US market intelligence team. He supports Avison Young’s healthcare practice by providing valuable research and producing reports and thought leadership to better the specific understanding of the US healthcare real estate market. Derek possesses a strong understanding and particular interest in Medical Outpatient Buildings at both the market and asset levels and has the experience to leverage and interpret data in discovering the highest and best use of a medical asset, or the best location for a medical tenant.

Derek believes that understanding demand drivers should be a priority in studying markets and assets. Placing demand first, he likes to start projects by looking at as many relevant data points as possible, and then he focuses on comparing and analyzing each piece until the most important factors for understanding become obvious.

Derek joined Avison Young’s Market Intelligence team in 2022 as an analyst in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina market and has provided a lot of value as a resource since joining. He has a unique perspective as both an American and a Canadian citizen, who grew up in the US and completed undergraduate studies in Canada before returning to the US. Derek’s mother is a dentist, and his family is full of medical physicians and practitioners, which adds additional personal perspective to his work as healthcare lead.
