Avison Young adds J.C. Griffin in Chicago
January 6, 2021Avison Young has hired J.C. Griffin as a senior broker in the firm’s downtown Chicago office. He will focus on executing investment management transactions and conducting valuation and advisory services within the firm’s development services and capital markets groups.
Griffin will also expand the firm’s focus on the public sector, collaborating directly with development executive, Richard Shields, and principals, Richard and James Hanson.
“J.C. is an incredibly well liked and respected professional known for his solutions-minded approach and tenacious work ethic,” said Beth Phillips, principal and managing director of the firm’s Chicago office. “We couldn’t be prouder to have him join the firm; his energy, team-oriented attitude and attention to detail make him a tremendous asset as we continue to expand our national development and capital markets efforts.”
Before joining Avison Young, Griffin initiated his real estate career at @properties, where he worked with institutional investors, family offices and conventional landlords on the disposition, leasing and valuation of retail and office assets. Prior to brokerage advisory, Griffin managed personnel, facilities and communications in the public sector, working for the Cook County Bureau of Asset Management, the Illinois Department of Transportation and the U.S. House of Representatives. Antecedent to his work in government administration, Griffin managed labor affairs and transportation operations for the Norfolk Southern Railroad Corporation in Chicago and Detroit.

Griffin is a graduate of the national Real Estate Associate Program (REAP) and the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Commercial Real Estate Academy. He is a licensed real estate broker in the state of Illinois and North Carolina, an alumnus of the John Marshall Law School and earned his undergraduate degree from North Park University with a concentration in business and organizational management. Griffin also served honorably in the United States Air Force, U.S. Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard, fulfilling eight collective years in the U.S. Department of Defense as a Combat Readiness Airman and C-130 enlisted aviator.
